Laura McKenzie, Student-at-Law
Laura (she/her) is an articling student at SB LLP.
Prior to law school, she completed a degree in Education (English Language Arts, Computing Science) at the University of Alberta. After a number of years teaching, Laura started a family and focused her time volunteering for community not-for-profit boards, typically serving in executive roles. The experiences she had negotiating, drafting, and advocating for policy galvanized her to return to school in pursuit of a law degree.
During law school, Laura was active within her law school communities. She was appointed as the first-year representative for the Law Students’ Association at the University of Saskatchewan and presented at a conference by the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism at McGill University on the rights of transgender people. After transferring back home to the University of Alberta to complete her degree, Laura continued to work with the Centre for Constitutional Studies as the Managing Editor of the Seven/Fifty blog. She is keenly interested in issues concerning the protection of historically disadvantaged groups and Aboriginal law.
Outside of the legal world, you’ll typically find Laura either watching or refereeing tackle football, in the gym, or playing board games with friends.
