Dr. Rupak Sarma, JD
Rupak is a business lawyer.
His practice is built on a foundation of global experience and his background in management consulting, international marketing, and regulatory compliance. Having lived, studied, and worked in India, England, Northern Ireland, and Canada, Rupak brings a global perspective and an understanding of diverse commercial environments. His academic background includes degrees in Business Management, International Business Management, and Business Process Improvement, equipping him to identify risk, navigate the legal, operational, and strategic needs of modern businesses.
He achieved his JD degree at Queen’s University Belfast, UK— a doctorate program where his research focused on Canadian third-party litigation funding. Rupak can advise clients navigate the ethical and regulatory dimensions of financing meritorious claims, when litigation cost is a barrier. He has presented his research to the Legal Education Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association and various firms. Additionally, Rupak pursued part of his JD degree at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta, where he served as former Dean Philip Bryden KC’s research assistant.
Outside work, Rupak serves as a Director of Alberta Lawyers’ ASSIST, and as a member of the Finance, Budget, and Regulatory Committee of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. He also sits on multiple committees within the Canadian Bar Association. When not working, Rupak indulges in outdoor activities such as exploring trails, and biking. He is a foodie and enjoys coffee conversations, rifle shooting, leather craft, constructing Lego structures and learning about artificial intelligence.
